Macaroons or MacaronsTop Nosh Macaroons (often affectionately known as “Macaroons” by the English speaking population and “Luxemburgerly” for the Swiss) are the real thing and should not be mistaken with the overly sweet mounds of shredded coconut. They’re light, delicate and utterly delicious – it’s no wonder that macaroons have become such a popular treat. So what do we mean when we say the real thing?A brief history…This delightful confection has its origin in Renaissance Italy from where the recipe then migrated to France.
In their original form Macaroons are comprised of three ingredients only, ground almonds, egg whites, and sugar.
Then, at some point in the 19th century, French bakers came up with the idea to take two cookies and fill them with different fillings and so with a touch of genius produce the most elaborate yet delicate flavors out of the simplest, barest elements. Thus, the Macaron became what it is today: a queen of pastries
Marie Antoinette adored them so much that she even named her cat. “Macaron”.Top Nosh has different flavors of Macaroons to offer which are available at the Earth Fair Market in Tokai on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
